Here, we are presented with a movie that takes place five years after the events of The Dark Knight Rises, where we find Bruce Wayne living in a small town under the name of Thomas Meyer, and he is wracked with depression and guilt, contemplating suicide as the last and only resolution to his internal conflict. For this, he is seeking the counsel of a psychiatrist, Doctor Pamela.
While all of this is happening, and new gang calling themselves "The Sons of Batman" emerge as a new threat, calling Bruce out of retirement.
Without giving too much away, viewers will witness Batman's internal and external struggles come to a head. Old villains and demons emerge from the darkness. We find out exactly why Batman refuses to kill, and why he (as a mortal) cannot stand under the burden of being the savior of the world.
Rife with symbolism, action-packed fighting scenes, and dialogue that drives home the message right to the hearts of the viewers, Dark Knight Freedom is definitely a fan film that should not be missed.
Dark Knight Freedom will play at the Independence Cinema theater on September 3, 2015 at 11pm. If you want to get the latest news on Dark Knight Freedom and Derby Productions, head on over to their Facebook page.
